Carbon dioxide
In the scientific literature, carbon dioxide is characterized as a chemical compound whose formula contains 1 carbon atom and 2 oxygen atoms, under normal conditions, a colorless, odorless gas 1.5 times heavier than air.
Carbon dioxide is widely used in industry. The most obvious is the use of gas to produce carbonated drinks, particularly beer, soft drinks and wine. This prevents the growth of bacteria and fungi; carbon dioxide can also be used to produce decaffeinated coffee; thanks to the cooling properties mentioned above, CO2 keeps food products cold during transport. In addition, it can be used for rapid freezing and, in combination with ethylene oxide, for cold sterilization of food; during the grain dressing process, CO2 is pumped into grain silos or other storage areas to kill insects and protect the product; it also plays an important role in the production of certain fertilizers;
